  • Wooden Handrail Connection Elements M8 (MED-1309) are a two-piece fixing kit designed for joining the ends of wooden handrails. The kit consists of a zinc-plated metal threaded insert with an M8 internal thread and a zinc-plated double-ended stud featuring a wood screw thread at one end and an M8 metric thread at the other.

These fixing elements create a mechanical connection between two wooden handrail sections. The threaded insert is installed into one handrail end, while the double-ended stud is screwed into the other. The handrails are then joined by engaging the M8 metric thread with the insert. For a neater finish, an additional decorative handrail connector sleeve (ring) is recommended between the two handrail ends to conceal the joint.

    Installation

    1. Prepare the handrail ends: Check that both wooden handrail ends are properly prepared and can be accurately aligned. Mark the drilling positions at the centre of each handrail end.

    2. Drill the holes: Drill holes of the appropriate diameter and depth into both handrail ends. Select the hole dimensions according to the threaded insert, double-ended stud and properties of the wood.

    3. Install the threaded insert: Using a suitable installation tool, screw the zinc-plated metal insert with the M8 internal thread into one wooden handrail end. Ensure that the insert is firmly seated in the wood.

    4. Install the double-ended stud: Screw the wood-threaded end of the double-ended stud into the other wooden handrail end. Leave the M8 metric threaded section protruding so that it can engage with the threaded insert.

    5. Position the decorative sleeve: If using a decorative wooden handrail connector sleeve (ring), position it at the joint between the two handrail ends before final assembly. The sleeve helps conceal the joint and minor differences in the alignment of the handrail ends.

    6. Join the handrails: Align both wooden handrail sections and screw the M8 metric thread of the stud into the insert installed in the opposite handrail end. Carefully bring the handrail ends together without damaging the wood or threaded components.

    7. Check the connection: Verify that both handrail sections are correctly aligned and the connection is stable. If a decorative sleeve is used, ensure that it neatly covers the joint. Avoid excessive tightening, which could damage the wood or weaken the grip of the fixing elements.

Recommended: When joining two wooden handrails, we recommend using an additional decorative handrail connector sleeve (ring) positioned between the handrail ends. It helps conceal the joint, cover minor imperfections in the handrail ends and provide a cleaner finished appearance. The decorative sleeve is not included in the MED-1309 kit and must be purchased separately. Select the sleeve dimensions according to the diameter of the wooden handrail.

Important: The threaded insert and double-ended stud are manufactured from zinc-plated metal, not stainless steel. Before installation, assess the wood condition, handrail dimensions, expected loads and environmental conditions. The load-bearing capacity of this kit has not been specified, so its suitability for a particular railing structure must be evaluated separately.

    Frequently Asked Questions

What is included in the MED-1309 wooden handrail connection kit?
The kit contains two zinc-plated metal components: a threaded insert with an M8 internal thread and a double-ended stud with a wood screw thread and an M8 metric thread. The decorative connector sleeve is not included.

How are two wooden handrails joined using this kit?
The threaded insert is screwed into one handrail end, while the wood-threaded section of the double-ended stud is installed into the other. The handrails are joined by screwing the M8 metric thread of the stud into the insert. Suitable holes must be prepared before installation.

Is a decorative handrail connector sleeve recommended?
Yes. A decorative connector sleeve (ring) positioned between the two wooden handrail ends helps conceal the joint and minor imperfections in the handrail alignment. It is sold separately and must be selected according to the handrail diameter.
